Conflict of Interest Policy
Transparency in all our relationships and editorial decisions
Our Commitment
AI Business Review is committed to transparency about relationships that could influence—or appear to influence—our editorial coverage. This policy applies to all staff, contributors, Editorial Board members, and freelancers.
Types of Conflicts
We recognize three categories of potential conflicts:
Financial Interests
Stock ownership, consulting arrangements, speaking fees, or any financial relationship with companies we cover.
Professional Relationships
Employment, board positions, advisory roles, or ongoing business relationships with covered entities.
Personal Relationships
Family members or close personal relationships with executives or employees at covered companies.
Disclosure Requirements
All contributors must disclose relevant interests. Here's how we handle disclosures:
Author Bios
Permanent disclosure in contributor profiles
Article Footnotes
Specific disclosures for individual articles
Editor Review
All disclosures reviewed before publication
Recusal
Contributors recused from conflicted coverage
Sample Disclosure
Example Disclosure Statement
"Disclosure: The author holds equity in Company X and has previously consulted for Company Y. These relationships were disclosed to editors, and the author was recused from coverage directly affecting these companies."
Our Relationship with AIU.ac
AI Business Review is published by Artificial Intelligence University (AIU.ac). We are transparent about this relationship:
- AIU.ac provides institutional backing but does not direct editorial decisions
- Our Editorial Charter establishes a formal firewall between editorial and institutional interests
- Contributors affiliated with AIU.ac declare this in their bios
- Coverage of AIU.ac itself undergoes additional editorial review
This model mirrors respected publications like Harvard Business Review (Harvard Business School) and MIT Sloan Management Review (MIT Sloan).
Contributor Obligations
All contributors must:
- Declare All Interests: Disclose any financial, professional, or personal interests related to their coverage area upon joining and whenever circumstances change
- Update Promptly: Notify editors within 7 days of any new potential conflict
- Accept Recusal: Step aside from coverage where conflicts cannot be adequately managed through disclosure
- Avoid New Conflicts: Consult editors before taking on new roles that could create conflicts
Advertising & Commercial
Commercial relationships do not influence editorial coverage:
- Advertising is clearly labeled and separated from editorial content
- Advertisers receive no advance notice of editorial coverage
- Editorial staff do not participate in advertising sales
- Sponsored content is clearly marked as such
- See our Advertising Policy for full details
Reporting Concerns
If you believe a conflict of interest has not been properly disclosed:
- Email editor@aibusinessreview.org with details
- We will review and respond within 7 business days
- If disclosure was inadequate, we will update the article and our records
